I currently have two 1st gen iPhones and have been thinking about upgrading. With two iPhones on the same plan, does anyone know if upgrading one is problematic from a service plan standpoint?
Also, am I correct in assuming that a sim-less iPhone will simply function as a touch? _________________ -=iMav=-

As for upgrading the issue could be one line would have an increase in price, I know that upgrading from a regular line to an iPhone line adds $30 on our plan (my mom is interested and I've been wanting one for a while).
The iPhone SIM-less may just not function, I know phones I've had in the past will not work without a SIM card or enter an airplane mode without it. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

I didn't have mess with sim cards at all. Just plugged the new iPhone into the computer, activated in iTunes, and I was done.
The old iPhone "gave up" the phone number and is now a bulky iPod touch. (even better than a touch because it has an external speaker and free software updates). _________________ -=iMav=-

There's nothing wrong with that. Apple won't even release the latest security updates for free on the iPod touch. At least they haven't yet. |

I was an avid 2G Touch owner but just got a used 16gb 3G phone for cheaper than the Touch was. 3.0 full unlock just released this morning, using T-mobile on it. sweet.
Who needs the 3GS and a 2yr $$$ contract. |

I do, at least my parents are considering it, I would ride on their contract until I'm out of college though (which seems like it'll be 5+ years) so wouldn't be a big issue for me as far as paying it. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

if you're in the US - iPhones are only sold at AT&T or the Apple store with a required 2 yr $75+ monthly plan.
you can buy used iPhones on ebay or craigslist, but unless you jailbreak it to unlock it, ATT's required contract is the only game in town. |

My brother gave me mine, and you don't need a contract to use it through AT&T. I pay the same as anybody else except I'm not locked into the 2 year contract, I can leave them anytime I want. So buying it on E-Bay or craigslist is a good way to go. _________________ Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM 500GB HD

That's exactly what I'm saying, I'm on a month to month with AT&T right now. I can walk in there and cancel my plan at any time because I didn't buy my phone from them. _________________ Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM 500GB HD
