Posted: Thu Feb 11, 2010 10:15 pm Post subject: external drive enclosure for iMAC G5 HD? |
|
|
My iMAC died (main board) and I just bought a new 27" iMAC.
It was a G5 iMac, 17" screen, bought in 2005.
I want to take out the HD from the old MAC, put it in an enclosure, and use it as an external to retrieve files. A lot of iTune and picture files on it.
I opened up the Mac and removed the drive. It's a 160G drive with a different type of connector ... and edge connector instead of the usual pin connectors.
Does anyone know what type of enclosure I could/should use?
Any other good options?
Thx,

after looking carefully at a g5 imac in the manual above I gotta think you don't have a g5 imac. the manual above shows a sata hdd. you are describing a ide hdd.
this would run an ide hdd

i would clone it to another newer hdd using superduper. due to its 5 year age.

Yes, that's exactly my drive and MAC. I don't think it's SATA though.

Well, I bought the new 27" iMAC and brought it home. I took out the HD from the old G5 iMAC and plan on copying files somehow.
My old HD has a ton of iTunes music on it. Question .... how do I retrieve all my old iTunes files? Can I just copy them onto my new MAC like any file?
