Apple Releases Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.1

Apple has released the Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.1 via their Software Update Utillty and website. According to the company, this firmware update improves battery performance of the 2007 Apple Wireless Keyboard when used with the Apple Magic Mouse and some Bluetooth headsets. It also addresses an issue with the 2007 Apple Keyboard and the 2007 Apple Wireless Keyboard, where a key may repeat unexpectedly while typing. The Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.1 weighs in at 1.52MB and requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or 10.6.2.

I hope they get something out to improve the battery life of the Magic Mouse. Then gain, this might be the answer. It just seems like there is major a problem when they are used together.

I don't have the newer keyboard, but my Magic Mouse still blows through batteries really fast. Much faster than my Mighty Mouse ever went through them. It's probably the only gripe I have about the thing so far.

I don't ever remember doing a firmware update like that for the aluminum keyboard. My little green light was flashing like a mofo. Oh well, I hope this doesn't cause a new bout of drops. I've been doing so well with it for the last couple months. Like since they released the last update for bluetooth.

I wonder if it's really possible to brick the keyboard during the firmware update? That would be my luck with a two year old keyboard that's out of warranty.

Hey great news another keyboard update...

Not!!!!

by the way to fix the magic mouse consuming battery's like a son of a gun.

install magic pref by downloading it from the apple web page you can disable features that make your mouse batterys last longer..

Strange though i set up a magic mouse on my mom's windows machine using the bootcamp driver and have had no issues with the mouse but when i run it on mac os x the thing sucks battery's like no tomorrow.

maybe a software issue or even a power saving issue.

I think it's too early to tell about it being a successful update. I'm just happy that Apple is trying to do something about it. There's something obviously wrong with the combination.

Great, just got the magic mouse...

Do y'all religiously turn it off?

I've religiously turned off my keyboard/mighty mouse and only change batteries about once a month. Thats using cheap ($1 store) batteries, good batteries last about 2 months.

My aluminum wireless keyboard died on Saturday, Apple Store called me earlier to tell me to come pick up my replacement. Since I'm selling the machine to my SO (who I live with) and buying a MBP, I'm considering throwing the replacement on ebay since the SO would prefer a key-pad anyway. I've been looking at the wired boards with key-pad on ebay...

I get over 1 year battery life on my MicroSoft 6000 USB mouse with daily use. I never turn it off in between uses. I know this for sure, because I looked at the purchase receipt the first time I changed the batteries.

I'm guessing that I get about 2-3 months battery life with my Apple wireless keyboard (2007 version). I'll have to put a date sticker on the bottom to keep track next time. All I know is that it consumers more batteries than anything else I own. I still like it though Smile

I'm going to put off doing the firmware update on my wireless keyboard as I'm not experiencing any problems with it (that I know of). Occasionally I might lose the connection but it's quite infrequent and it reconnects right away when it does.

My mouse is a Logitech MX7 and works very well so no worries there.

I applied this update yesterday and now the keyboard won't stay connected for more than a minute or so. It sometimes disconnects while I'm typing. I wish I had ignored the update because everything was working just fine.

I use Sony rechargeable lithiums in both my magic mouse and BT kb. I'm happy with the battery use. I did have the key repeat issue a few times that apple noted. hopefully that is fixed. I turn off my mouse but not my kb.
