Briefly: Boxee Beta and Everplay

Our friends over at Boxee have announced that the Boxee Beta is now open to all users. More information about the software can be found in this post on their blog. You can also watch a video of Andrew down below walking CNET through the new interface. In other news, Snarb.tk announced the release of Everplay 1.0. It's a new standalone "mini iTunes" player with full support for Last FM web and radio services. Guess what that means? You can pretty much scrobble, ban, love, share, and comment your heart out. The software also features a cool looking cover flow interface by designer Laurent Baumann. I would suggest that you give it a try, it's a slick little lightweight player.

I read the boxee privacy policy sounds like they sell every bit of your information they get, and they scan your computer for even more information. Obviously to make the user experience better, but I am not so sure I am comfortable with that. Eh I guess I will give it a go. |

Very nice app indeed. I'm having trouble getting it to see my itunes library. I have a mini in the office with the itunes library on an external HDD. The other mini is in the family room with the boxee app connected to the LCD. Both mini's are connected via CAT6. Any ideas? _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

Someone actually read the privacy policy?
I hear you Ray, but I don't think it's any worse than some of the other stuff out there. Not to mention that it's quickly become my favorite media center application for the Mac. I think it's the most professional feeling thing we have beyond Front Row, which I am still praying that Apple comes back hard with one of these days. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

I am trying it out and I like it. It's seems a little glitchy for me. I can't seem to get my apple remote to work for it, and the mouse has some kind of lag or something.
I dont' understand how some shows are geo blocked and then says it can be configured or something. That's a bummer there. I like pandora running through it. I am new to that but I like it better with boxee than the pandora website. I can see this getting better and better which it would have to. I'm not ready to merge my netflix account with it in the state its in. . I am with ya on Apple coming back strong for something like this. |

Wow, Boxee is definitely nice, and simpler to work with than Plex. I'm not ready to ditch Plex just yet, but I'm really liking where Boxee seems to be headed. Unfortunately there is no Hulu app at the moment. I haven't kept up with Boxee, but looking back at their history with Hulu over the last year or so, it looks like it has been an on-and-off thing with Boxee and Hulu. That is unfortunate. Hopefully they can get it worked out soon.
As far as Apple coming back with something similar, I doubt that will happen, unless it is tied to a new device, something like a combined Mini/TV. _________________ Mercury TiBook 400MHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD, Airport
