iTunes Preview Adds Song Previews
Thursday, January 7, 2010
Posted by: Kenan
Apple has quietly started offering 30-second song previews in iTunes Preview. The song previews are being served up via QuickTime in 44.100kHz AAC at 300+ kbps. This news has some people in the Apple community thinking that Apple might have larger plans in mind for iTunes Preview with recent acquisition of Lala, but for now, it continues on as a way to share and browse iTunes content via a web browser without having to launch the application. Only now, you get to actually listen to the tracks.

wasn't there a preview before?
I know the record companies are fighting them to pay royalties for playing previews. |

I don't think so, but I haven't seen it that much. I have only seen the iTunes Preview when receiving or posting links on a Windows machine. |

| Unless this is something radically different, there always was a 30 second preview. I know this, because one of the big complaints, was that 30 secs isn't enough for some songs. If it's an instrumental ( electronic/Jazz/etc ) the song has barely started. The quality maybe better, but it doesn't seem like anything new when I saw it yesterday. |

I remember seeing the pages, but not the previews. I really wish that Apple would start a music subscription service based on this same web-based format. Then bring something similar over to the iPhone, Apple TV and mythical tablet. _________________ 2.4GHz MacBook Pro/4GB/320GB HD

I guess this means I won't have to worry about having to load iTunes anymore, but it wasn't such a hassle to begin with... _________________ 2.0 Ghz 2007 Mac mini (120 GB HD, 2 GB RAM, 10.6.4)
