came across this picture and i was wondering what would be apple next OS name, among all big wild cat feline names:
- OSX v10.0 "Cheetah"
- OSX v10.1 "Puma"
- OSX v10.2 "Jaguar"
- OSX v10.3 "Panther"
- OSX v10.4 "Tiger"
- OSX v10.5 "Leopard"
- OSX v10.6 "Snow Leopard"
will the OS evolves to a ELEVEN or created a sequel of the TEN with another kitty name?
if its OSX then what do you think theyll pick:
bobcat? cougar? lion? lynx? ........(my fav) saber tooth! _________________ apple ipod touch 4th gen. 8Gb |

Well, OS X is a product name. When it gets to 10.11, it will be OS X 10.11.
I'm not sure where they will go with the big cats, but some feel that Leopard was picked for 10.5 because of the 'changing it's spots' analogy to Apple changing from PPC to Intel. 10.6 is pretty much just a massive change to 10.5. At least as far back as System 7, it's not uncommon for Apple to release a newer version of an OS as a new version rather than a update.
I was also hoping for Saber Tooth version...

I doubt they will ever pick Lion. To easy to let Apple bashers make it into lying lion... if it has any bugs! _________________ Retired: Altair 8800, PET, TI 99/4A, Apple II

yeah funny that the king of the jungle LION (not the apropriate feline to be king since hes unfaithful, laisy and kills pups) wasnt picked up yet - GOOD, saber tooth is it!!!
you mean that there will be 5 more upgrades to snow leopard from 10.6 to 10.11? maybe i missed something but:
leopard is the basic OSX right? is it correct for me to say that snow leopard is a sub-version that was introduced with version 10.6 (which i call an upgrade and not a new OS)? _________________ apple ipod touch 4th gen. 8Gb |

Mac OS X is the 10.0 series. So all major upgrades of Mac OS X would be point releases such as 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 etc (which have also had a new cat named after them)
10.0 - Cheetah
10.1 - Puma
10.2 - Jaguar
10.3 - Panther
10.4 - Tiger
10.5 - Leopard
10.6 - Snow Leopard
Then within each of these will be minor upgrades which we normally get via Software update 10.6.1 10.6.2 etc
The really big update, the New OS would be to Mac OS 11, if there will be such a beast.
In the windows world I think of it as Vista -> Windows 7 would be the same as Mac OS X going to Mac OS 11
Microsoft also bring out various versions from time to time such as Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE these would be like the 10.5 to 10.6 upgrades
Finally windows also brings out service packs SP1, SP2 which would be like our Software Update upgrades 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 _________________ Phil
