Apple has released the Wireless Keyboard Update 2.0 via their Software Update utility and website. According to the release notes, this update allows users to take advantage of the "special features" of their 2009 Aluminum Apple Wireless Keyboard. The Wireless Keyboard Update 2.0 weighs in at 10.95MB and requires Mac OS X 10.5.8. For Mac OS X 10.6 users, the 2009 Aluminum Wireless Keyboard support is included in the Mac OS X 10.6.2 Update.

It doesn't say anything other than

Summary

Install this software to use the function key one-touch controls of your Mac with your aluminum Apple Wireless Keyboard.

I wasn't aware that they weren't working with the new model keyboards. By looking at the pic on the Apple website the new keyboards (and keys) look exactly the same as the prior model I own. Perhaps they didn't update the picture for the new model.

Perhaps someone can clarify the differences besides the 2AA batteries and the intelligent power management system in the new models.

Yep, I see no difference after applying this update too.
