|
|
I went to empty a large old iTunes file of 42000 songs after making 2 backups of it. I dragged it to trash and clicked empty. It mentioned something new called secure trash empty. I figured must be a snow leopard upgrade. well 24 hours later it has moved from 42000 items to delete to 24 000 item to delete at this rate 36 more hours! Is thisgoing to be the new trash empty time or am I missing a nice easy way to do a none secure empty of the trash! Like pre snow was. TIA _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

Secure empty trash takes a lot longer than a normal empty as its over writing the files with junk data multiple times prior to removing them. It’s a way of making the files much more unlikely to be recovered later should someone decide to have a look at your old HDD etc.
With 42000 large files to overwrite multiple times its definitely going to take a while
BTW secure empty trash isn't a new thing it was in previous versions of Mac OS X as well. _________________ Phil

I think you can specify to use secure empty, but I leave it with normal empty and only use Secure Empty from the finder menu if I'm deleting a file I think needs it
