I "downgraded" from a MacBook Pro to a MacBook Air over the weekend ...so no drive noise to worry about
I don't find my Mini to be noisy at all, but installed this anyways. |

What should I do?
The superdrive makes noise at startup.
If I run the software update it does not offer it (I just got the Airport one). _________________ Mac Mini i5 2.5 GHZ, 16GB Ram.

I've noticed it can take them a day or two to push updates out to everyone; or maybe you just don't need it for the specific drive you have (even though it's noisy). |

| I have a feeling this update is just for the Optiarc drives again Zedtvl. Didn't we talk about have the Pioneer drives before? Nothing showed up for me, but mine is still quiet. When did yours become noisy? |

There isn't anything showing for me with a Pioneer drive. I really wouldn't consider the drive to be that quiet either. |

The update isn't showing up for me.
I don't mind, tho as I don't find the Superdrive sound that annoying at all. |

It was from the origin and unfortunately it is an Optiarc I downloaded the update to see if it would change anything but when I wanted to install it a message told me that it was already here.
It was done on my Macbook (which does not have an Optiarc) I can hear some improvements. _________________ Mac Mini i5 2.5 GHZ, 16GB Ram.

Zedtv, I bought my early 2009 mini with the Optiarc drive and it made noise at both startup and wakeup. After installing the first firmware update, the noise after wakeup was gone, but noise remained at startup. So I went to an apple store asking for repair, but they said it couldn't be fixed, only by changing the drive. So they changed my drive to Pioneer and there was no noise at all! no more! Maybe you should ask apple to change your Optiarc? Just my suggestion. |

Yes you are rigtht the noise after startup is gone, I asked at my local Apple strore, they did not want to do it. I do not feel fighting right now, maybe before the end of the warranty..
Thanks for your advice Fiat _________________ Mac Mini i5 2.5 GHZ, 16GB Ram.

I just installed this last night and the noise is still there. There is a slight change in cadence, and there's now a longer delay from when you hit the power button to when the drive makes its presence known. oh well. Onto firmware update 4.0 . _________________ "You can't have a light without a dark to stick it in." - Arlo Guthrie
