|
|
I always keep my eyes open for good Mac deals, even if I'm not looking to buy - although if the deal is really good, it might change my mind.
So I thought I'd start a thread where members can tell fellow members where good machines or accessories are going cheap. N.B. Please keep any eBay deals from "mrstich" to yourself - we already know about those...
On a few occasions I've mentioned Wegener Media to other members looking for cheap refurb'd Macs in the US. Wegener do sell desktops, but seem to specialise in notebooks.
Today, I found another US source of low price Macs - Mac Of All Trades with eMacs and G4 iMacs starting at $300. Their policy for shipping internationally is "get a friend in the US to buy and then send it on to you". Not sophisticated, but I love it!
And in the UK, the some of the best Mac/iPod deals I've found are on Cancom's refurb pages with Apple notebooks starting at £293+VAT. Cancom also has an eBay store whose iPod auctions start at with a very low opening bid. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

I find CanCom's refurb prices ridiculous sometimes.....Prime Example _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5

Before you do business with Wegener Media you may wish to read this:

I, personally, would never do business with a vendor with this many complaints and that low a rating with the Better Business Bureau. |

Speaking of Mac bargains.
Somebody in my town is selling for $250 a Mac Mini G4 1.42 GHZ combo drive with 1 gig of Ram, Apple care until august 12th.
It has all the disks of 10.4 and a Mac Kayboard and Mouse.
I am thinking to get it for my son, do you think it is a good deal? _________________ Mac Mini i5 2.5 GHZ, 16GB Ram.

She loves to lay on the computer desk and look beautiful.
Wegener is located about 40 minutes from where I live. Obviously not a very good rating with BBB. That speaks for itself. |

$250? How large is the hard drive? With those peripherals and OS X sounds like a good deal to me. |

80 gigs, yes it is what I feel (I just needed to be reassured, thanks for your answer), it is about an hour drive from my home I think I will give it a try... _________________ Mac Mini i5 2.5 GHZ, 16GB Ram.

Mac/Apple bargains are so difficult to come by on ebay in the UK - invariably a bidding frenzy throughout the auction means the price ends up ridiculous. Last week an second hand 3rd generation (current) iPod shuffle went for £33! That's £1 more than you can buy it brand spanking new - and then there was postage to pay. Ebay's gone nuts lately.
There seems to be so few places in the UK where you can genuinely buy a decently cared for second hand mac at a reasonable price... but I keep looking |

yeah, that's a good deal - that spec has been going for in excess of £200 ($400 US) on ebay in the UK - and I'm looking to pay around £125-£150. Each day is a new wave of disappointment lol. |

Our pals at Microsoft want to promote their www.live.com search engine.
If you have a Passport/Hotmail/XBL ID you can sign in with it at live.com.
Then search for what you want. The top of the results page will be the sponsored links. The first one should be an eBay link, which you can click on and be taken to a search at eBay that is as specific as your search. Or if you have something that you are watching at eBay that's fine too(saved searches are fine too). You just have to get to eBay via that live.com link.
Also, it has to be a Buy It Now auction, and your eBay and PayPal accounts must be in good standing.
Anyway, with in one hour of your search, Buy It Now.
You will get 25% back via PayPal from Microsoft after 60 long days.
I just found out about this, while looking at Intel minis on eBay. Guy that was selling his, wanted something like $650 for a 1.66/2GB mini and some other things, but I found one that was cheaper and used the live.com deal on it. So in early January, I should be getting some bucks back from MS for buying a Mac!
There is some fine print about only redeeming your loot via your PayPal account. As to whether this means you can only spend it with merchants that accept PayPal, or with a PayPal debit card or eBay auctions, OR if you can transfer your loot to your linked bank accounts is something I'm not sure of. But Barnes and Noble(bn.com not the brick and mortars), as well as Monoprice both accept PayPal, as well as some other online merchants.
SC
[edit - Also, it doesn't count for the purchase of vehicles, anything from express, or Half, or using a third party check out system(but eBay only lets you use PayPal now anyway...). ]
[edit - You can only sign in to eBay twelve times, after that, the cash back is over with. ]
