its one of those days _ tried running system update but it hung up about 3/4 through checking _ then there was a question mark over system preferences in the dock _ trying to open system preference gave an error message stating that system preferences is not installed (it worked yesterday) _ now the system preferences icon is gone from the dock _ any ideas on how to get system preferences back ?

| Is it gone from your Applications folder? You might have to do an Archive & Install from your Tiger disk to get it back. |

Macfixit recommends retrying the update using the Combo installer if your original update is incomplete...you may be doing this anyway but thought I'd mention it.
