Kanex Intros Mini DisplayPort with Digital Audio to HDMI Adapter
Wednesday, September 30, 2009
Posted by: Brian
Kanex today announced the release of its Mini DisplayPort with Digital Audio to HDMI adapter. Unlike their first generation adapter with USB audio, this adapter combines the digital output from your Mini DisplayPort and Apple minijack into a single HDMI output solution. This allows for a true audio/video experience with support for 1080p video and 5.1 surround sound. It also features a USB 2.0 input able to supply power to the adapter, so no external power source is needed.
This adapter supports HDMI 165 MHz, 1.65Gbps per channel, and like the first generation adapter, it supports HDMI resolutions of up to 1080p and 8 bit per channel. The Kanex Mini DisplayPort with Digital Audio to HDMI adapter is also able to support uncompressed audio such as LPCM, but can also support compressed audio DTS Digital such as DTS-HD and Dolby True HD formats.
The Kanex Mini DisplayPort with Digital Audio to HDMI adapter is available now and priced at $59.99.

I waited so long to get the original and now they come out with this better one. Isn't that always the way? |

Watch, now Apple will fix it Oct. 14th and run digital audio out the mini-display port like they should have done in the first place, and put all the cable builders out of business! |

And then how about a firmware update for the older models too? It has to be supported by the hardware already, right? |

Their standard supports audio, but they don't. I'll never understand that one when they needed something to compete with HDMI. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

| Maybe HDMI sneaked up on them. But they certainly can see the writing on the wall with their HD Movie downloads on iTunes. |

I would much rather have to combo of Mini DP and HDMI on the back of my Mac mini. It's a shame they only think about the Apple TV when it comes to using HDMI. |
