Atlona Technologies Intros DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter

Atlona Technologies today announced the release of their AT-DP200 DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter. This new pass-through video converter lets computers with a DVI or Mini-DVI video port use Apple's Mini DisplayPort-based 24-inch LED Cinema Display. The video converter also features EDID management and supports HDCP and resolutions up to 1920x1200. The AT-DP200 DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter from Atlona Technologies will begin shipping at the end of this month for $179.

This seems like an expensive proposition. Why isn't a plain old adapter or DVI to Mini DisplayPort cable possible?

The 24" Cinema is a nice looking display with a great panel (if you can look past the glare), but it should come with more connection options for that kind of money. I think it should be more inline with the Dell U2410. Heck, that will connect to a kitchen sink. It even comes with a similar IPS panel.
