Can someone recommend a remote control device with basic functions like volume, mute, controlling iTunes and DVD player? I've read about this one http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/remote/ . Maybe someone out there knows of a better choice or can tell more about the Keyspan one.

I've been looking into remotes and came up with this..

http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/airclick/index.php

They claim the Airclick has a 60ft range and is "ideal for controlling applications including iTunes, QuickTime, and even Keynote or PowerPoint." I'm not sure what the range is on the Keyspan one but it uses IR so the range is not going to be as good as the Airclick with RF.

I think this keyspan actually transmits over the Airport Express wireless to transmit its signal back to your Mac... so the range should be over 60 feet.

I just checked and yes, it does transmit over airport express if you're using it with one. If you simply use it with the USB port on your machine, it would be a line-of-sight, so you'd be better off going RF. The price is definately right on the Griffin product if you can wait 2 months for it.

Blazer: The Griffin one looks promising and the price isn't that bad. The remote control looks a little small but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I agree RF would be the better way to go and may just work best for my setup. I want to use it to control iTunes when I'm out in the backyard/porch/pool this summer. So far have my mini hooked up to a Kenwood Amp with wireless outdoor speakers but have no way to control iTunes away from the desktop. This is where the remote comes in!

Bubba: I don't have an Airport Express but Iím going to read up on that one as well.

Thanks for the info!

If you are going to be outside, then RF is the only way to go. Even if you get an airport express (which RULE by the way), you'll still have to be within line of sight from it to use the other keyspan product. For the price, I think I'd go with the Griffin product (I'll probably do this as well when it comes out).

The price is really good if you ask me. Iím going to pick one up as soon they become available. Did you notice the way they have it angled? I wonder if that will cause any problems other than sticking out far?

I pre-ordered one on Amazon for $34.88. I forgot to mention in my first post they weren't out yet. Sad

It looks like it will bend, but that still doesn't help your items that are plugged in beside it in a USB hub. They will probably ship a small extension cable for that reason.

I got mine... and sent it back 15 minutes later. Range was horrible. 60 feet my butt. Not even 25 feet.

Still looking for an RF solution that has the same range as a 900mhz phone so I can control my music from the deck...

Not exactly the most elegant (ok, it's downright ugly) but ATI's remote wonder sounds like it will fill your needs. Pretty good range, lot's of buttons (all customizable). About $50.
