I was just reading about Senator Kennedy passing away. I always had respect for the guy and standing up for being a true liberal. I don't think the underprivileged, elderly or infirmed had a better person on their side in our goverment. It sure would be nice to see another democrat pick up this torch and grow a pair. They sure don't make them like these three anymore. Sad

It does seem like the end of an era.

I just watched a documentary on HBO called Teddy: In His Own Words. It was really good.

I watched the funeral and stuff over the weekend as well. It's sad to see him go. Sad

I guess it is the end of an era. It seems as if when the first two Kennedy's were killed, the US went down hill.

The deaths of President Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King were such blows to this country. I think Ted did his best to carry on their legacy, but that's a tough task for one man.

I AM a little too young 52 to full remember The Kennedy killing well.

So I always place the turning point with Nixon and Watergate. Public fully lost trust in the Government. I can see that if I were a little older I could say the Kennedy assassinations plus KING's assassination started massive distrust then Johnson picking up Vietnam into Nixon's Impeachment finished the public trust off.

philiparcario, you're only 2 years younger than me. But I remember those assasinations during the '60s. There were 5 political assasinations during that period.

I don't have all 5 in mind. Macolm x is 4 who was the 5th?

Governor Maddux was shot but lived in a wheelchair. He was an interesting guy most people think of him as a wild eyed bigot, but he had reformed moving much closer to the center and then was shot. same goes for Malcom x most think of him as a racist crazy wild eyed black radical he also reformed much closer to the center and was then shot

I think you are thinking about George Wallace, he was the one who was shot and survived to live in a wheelchair.

Medgar Evers was also assassinated during that time.

I also think the assassination of John Lennon was another turning point in our history. That didn't happen until 1980 though.

Like I said I was young and you are right wallace was the one I was thinking of. The shame of it is both he and malcom x are still demonized as the far right and far left when it was their moves towards the center and reason that got them shot.
