Since my 10 month old 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo Mac Book has never left my desk I've decided to sell it and get a basic Mac Mini. I'll use the difference in price to pay for my larger desktop monitor and part of an uninterruptible power supply.
I have an external hard drive for Time Machine. One thing I want to do before the sale is to transfer all of my files to my spare Vista computer. I have MacDrive 7 which allows a Windows machine to access a drive formatted for a Mac. I want to move my files separate from Time Machine to the external hard drive and retrieve them using the Vista computer. Can my Vista computer and the Mac Book share the same external hard drive at the same time?
The second thing I want to do is find out which of the files in the Mac Book can be read on the Vista computer. I mostly have photos stored as .png and many Text Edit files. I do have some PDF files that were created on the Mac Book. Most of them are web receipts from online purchases.
I have downloaded the Open Office Suite to the Vista computer for creating and reading text files. So far it is doing a good job.
I have made about twenty movies with my Flip Video camera. Some of them have been edited using iMovie with output files in the .mov or .mpeg4. I've stored some in .flv too. There probably are some other formats that I don't remember creating. Will these work on a Vista computer?
Thank you.

You don't want to do that. I would format the external to FAT32 and copy the files over. Then copy them to your Vista box. Or just move the files over your home network. |
