Apple Offers Matte Display Option for 15-inch MacBook Pro
Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Haters of the glossy screen can rejoice today! Apple has started offering a matte display option once again for the 15-inch MacBook Pro. According to the company, "the 15-inch MacBook Pro comes with a 1440-by-900-pixel LED-backlit display. Users can choose a standard glossy display that lets them view graphics, photos, and videos with richer colors and deeper blacks, or an optional antiglare display." As with the matte display for the 17" MacBook Pro, this option costs $50 though.

So... how about that option for the 13"? Isn't it supposed to be a "Pro" laptop now? _________________ Mac mini 2010 (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz/8 GiB)

| I'm so happy! I was actually considering leaving Apple over this one and buying something like a Thinkpad T400s down the road. At least I have an option now when my current MacBook Pro dies. Not that I want that to happen anytime soon, but you get the point. |

| You're looking at my next Mac now that I'm set once again in the Mac mini department. Don't tell Apple, but I would have been willing to pay double the price of $50 for a matte screen. That's how bad I hate those darn glossy screens. |

'bout time.
I really like my 2.4GHz Unibody, apart from the 4GB RAM limit and the glossy screen. |

I'm not even sure the 15" model should be considered "Pro" without an ExpressCard slot.
I'm just glad the matte is back. I do wonder what they'll do with the 13" MacBook Pro and iMac???? Those bloody glass screens are just an absolute nightmare under any kind of lighting. They must realize this now. |

I don't mind the lack of an ExpressCard slot as much as a lack of a dedicated graphics card. Integrated sucks for anything 3D. |

Okay, make that two reasons. I forgot about the entry-level model being sans the 9600M GT. |

I've actually been impressed with the performance of the 9400M, but I hear you loud and clear. Anything touted with the "Pro" badge should be carrying dedicated video. It doesn't make sense otherwise. |

| I like the glossy type of screen on my MacBook Air much better than the glass with black bordering. I find the two distracting in almost every way possible. Especially when darker colors are being shown on the screen. It's literally like looking in a mirror the entire way across the screen. |

I'll definitely be tempted to stump up a few extra ££ when i pick up a MacBook Pro. I don't like how they do they exchange rate calculations though, $50 = £40 thats just not funny. _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5

I'm so glad they brought it back to the 15" MBP. One can only hope this is the beginning of a new trend in the industry. At least towards giving people a choice. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

It's not that far off. The £40 includes 15% VAT, while the $50 is absent of any tax. £40 before VAT is £34, which is about $56 at the current rates.
Yes, you're getting screwed. No, it's not as much as you think. |

You set me straight there! I won't grumble if I go for that matt option then _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5
