When I open Mac Help from a Finder window Help opens then closes straight away. Any ideas?

Likely a corruption in one of the help preference files.
Go into Finder and look under user/library/preferences

Delete any of these help preference files if they exist:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.help.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpui.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist

They should be rebuilt the next time you start help.

I had the same problem last night, except, it was doing it when I was trying to load Firefox. It would blink Firefox up top for a second then go back to Finder. I had to restart. I'm not sure what happened. But, half the reason I bought a Mac was because I thought not having to restart all the time was a good idea, let's hope I'm not disappointed. (Just to clarify, I'm not blaming Mac, I just hope it doesn't happen more).

Thanks Greg, but that didn't work, I even tried a restart afterwards.

I should point out that this doesn't happen on all help screens. For example I can open help in Safari OK.

You may also want to try deleting the help cache:

Go to your userid > Library > Caches and delete this folder:
com.apple.helpui folder.

If this doesn't work try using Disk Utility to repair permissions.

If that doesn't work click your heels together 3 times and... oh wait... thats for something else...

Thanks Greg, deleting the folder worked. Thanks!

BTW clicking my heels together only got me as far as Passport Control - they turned be nack 'cos I didn't have a valid visa to enter Kansas. Sad
