Just curious.....
currently using Boxee, gave up on the lovely looking Plex, not really a big fan of XBMC, but the (relatively) dowdy looking Boxee seems to get the job, of streaming from a NAS/Netflix/Hulu etc, done....... _________________ G5,MacMini,Macbook Pro, been using Macs since System 7 |

I'm a big fan of Plex but in any case is there a question in there somewhere or are you just giving an opinion. _________________ If I knew I was going to live this long I'd taken better care of myself |

OK I'll bite...
Plex is the best (more than gets the job done for streaming from an NAS, Hulu, Netflix, etc), XBMC is pretty cool, especially if you like the Auriga Aeon skin, and Boxee is for girlie-girls. |

Just looking for users opinions..
tried Plex 8.1/XBMC 9.summat, but keep going back to Boxee.....which, is not perfect, and lacks SERIOUS eye candy.......but seems more stable/powerful..especially streaming from my NAS.
Be nice when one of these has a 'stable' Vers 1 release!!!!!!! _________________ G5,MacMini,Macbook Pro, been using Macs since System 7 |

Most likely that will be Plex.
I still don't see why I need the stuff that Boxee has, but maybe I'm just more interested in watching movies and shows, than looking at social networking stuff.
You can use different XBMC skins to change the appearance, however the skin may require tweaking to get it to work with Plex.

At the risk of sounding like a walking advertizment let me quote what I just wrote in another thread about Plex.
| dannyv45 wrote: | Does a fine job with video although the music menu is a bit clunky but it's a work in progress. It is flaky on dvd playback but again a work in progress. Has a fine internet/application interface (app store) to call most 3rd party apps via plex and is chock full of internet plug-ins for many of the most popular internet video sites such as hulu, yahoo etc... It's a bear to setup but once setup its pretty family user friendly. Has native support for the apple remote and all harmony remotes to give you the feel that you are controling a regular set top DVD player or set top media device like an MVIX or popcorn hour (a huge +). As it is heavly under development you will find all sorts of support for it. It's not a program you will find sitting on a dusty top shelf anytime soon due to lack of development or interest. The FREE plex app I feel has more features then most 3rd party apps that you have to pay for.

My vote is for Plex, it is a more polished version of XBMC and
it the only that supports Hulu out of the box.
Boxee is more geared towards social networking, it profiles
what you watch. Ths may not be a good thing depending
on your point of view. |
