Missing Manual for Snow Leopard Coming in August

O'Reilly recently announced that Mac OS X Snow Leopard: The Missing Manual would be hitting store shelves in August. According to the publisher, this update of David Pogue's immensely popular series of Mac manuals will offer a wealth of information on Apple's latest operating system. The 1000-page book has a suggested retail price of $34.99. It's available now for pre-order from O'Reilly and retailers like Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
O'Reilly also announced that Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Snow Leopard Edition is set for an October release. This 608-page book is for new users making the transition from Windows to the Mac and Snow Leopard. It's also available for pre-order from O'Reilly and various retailers for $29.99.

A great series of books! I never thought that I would see the day of a one costing more than the actual software though.

I agree, they are a great series of books, I've used them a lot for OS X and Microsoft related stuff. I can't say I've ever purchased a book to learn about an Operating System, but I have for more technical stuff, and O'Reilly are among the best, together with Apress.
True, the book costs more than the OS 
...that's ok, it's a justifiable purchase for those that need it, Apple's OS is pretty powerful. It's like SharePoint Designer, it's free, yet the books cost a fortune, but everyone that needs them still buys them to make SharePoint not look like SharePoint. |

I bet they just added an extra chapter to the Leopard edition. The last chapter simply reads faster than Leopard.  |

| I have bought every missing manual book since panther and cant wait to get this one. Sure there has been some things retread and allot of it is basic Mac knowledge but dollar to page these books are worth it. I just wish I could buy it on my kindle so I dont have another huge book taking up space. |

I depend on technical books a lot (mainly SharePoint related stuff), and those books are not fun to read on the Kindle, they're books I like placing sticky notes all over, and actually be able to flip through the pages back and forth as quickly as possible. I do love the Kindle for casual reading though. |

| That is true. My tiger edition has a bunch of dog-ears and notations in it. I would love to get a copy when I buy the hardcopy to read on commutes and things like that. |

His books are good. I bought the manual for 10.4 Tiger but never got the Mac itself. His Snow Leopard will be the one that I really need now that I'll have the hardware one month before the book comes out!
