The new 10" Acer Aspire Ones now have a single RAM slot instead of the kind of odd hybrid onboard/open slot solution, they put a RAM access door on the bottom, and they are sold with a 6-cell battery.

Yeah, I just bought one myself, much better than the 8.9. I think they were listening to their customers, what a concept!

A single slot is a bit pointless with DDR based RAM. The DDR spec requires two slot's filled to work in dual channel mode. Effectively your RAM is slower with only one.

On a machine with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom, which is effectively half the speed of a Pentium M system with the same clock speed, it hardly matters.

Furthermore, it's not "pointless," to run DDR in single channel, it's just not as much performance as dual channel. That performance increase has shown to be relatively small; most machines showing a 5 to 7% difference in RAM heavy applications.

Also, limited space is a huge factor in this, 2 slots takes up, wouldn't you know it, twice the space.
