Apple has released AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Mac and Windows via its Software Update utility and on the Web. According to the company, AirPort Utility 5.4.2 is the simple to use, setup and management utility for the AirPort Express Base Station, the AirPort Extreme Base Station, and Time Capsule. In addition, AirPort Utility 5.4.2 provides several fixes, including:
- An issue causing AirPort Utility to be unable to read certain AirPort wireless device configurations.
- An issue causing AirPort Utility to sometimes be unable to discover an AirPort wireless device when Back To My Mac is enabled.
- An issue causing AirPort Utility to sometimes be unable to download firmware.
- An issue causing AirPort Utility to not correctly import Access Control Lists created in AirPort Admin Utility 4.x
- Added the ability in AirPort Utility to show all wireless passwords in the "Equivalent Network Password" sheet.
AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Mac weighs in at 16.86MB and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later. The Windows version weighs in at 10.92MB and requires Vista or Windows XP SP2 or later.

A firmware update would have been nice too. |

It seems like I've been dropping more since the 10.5.7 update. I also lose my AirPort Express while using AirTunes every now and again. The problem seems to go away if I use the 802.11n only 5GHz wireless mode, but that eliminates my 802.11G devices from connecting to the AirPort Extreme. Plus, the AirPort Extreme only sits like 20 feet away. |

I've had trouble with getting my Airport Extreme to show in the Airport Utilty after changes or restart. I hope this update helps. _________________ 2011 Mac mini with 8GB of RAM

I wasn't even able to get into my Airport Extreme settings after the last update and had to revert to an older version of the utility.
I hope this new version fixes that, too. I know it's listed, but I'm hoping it actually works. _________________ Mac mini 2010 (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz/8 GiB)

| I think it's a shame that Apple even uses a utility program like this for the Airports and TC. This should all be done through the browser and firmware if you ask me. |

On top of the stronger transmission rate, that's probably why it does better with 5GHz. |

back in the old days i had a 0 to 3gz scanner from kenwood we used it on the ship in the navy. you would not believe how many signals were on the bands. I am taling late 70's early 80's now there are far more signals and the band width for us to use it not open at 10gz or 20gz. if you did open it to civilians it would just get crowded in time.
wire is with us and is going to be with our kids and grandkids. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram
