A Question About Mac Refurb's

I've been looking at Apples Refurbished Mac's.
And If I can save enough money a Mac "Pro"
could be in my future.

The problem is, Apple doesn't seem to offer you the
ability to add software or a Wi-Fi card or a second
Graphics Card or ANYTHING. It looks like you can only
order the Refurb as a Base Model.

If I wanted Apple to upgrade the Refurb, can I?
Am I missing something?

Have you upgraded your Refurb with Apple?
How did you do it?

Any insight would be helpful.

No, you can't customize a refurb on the website. You may well be able to organize an upgrade (in much the same way that you could get your own machine upgraded) - take it to store and have them upgrade it.

Many people get lucky with refurbs. They are often listed as standard models even when they were upgraded by their original purchaser. So you could end up with more memory or a bigger hard disk.

yes you can bring refurbs into the apple store and they will upgrade them. I am thinking about a mac pro next year. The reason you should do it would be for ram upgrades. apple charges a lot to upgrade ram. ram is easy to put in a mac pro. the other upgrades may be better with apple.

As well as RAM, HD drives and more PCIe cards are also very easy to put into a MacPro yourself - and much cheaper than buying from Apple.

Unlike the mini, the Pro is designed to be easily upgraded by the user, without tools(*) or damage!

I see that some components are very easy to
change. However, that Wi-Fi card looks like its
harder than it should be. Breaking a mini would
not be as painful as a Pro, you know what I mean?

Anyway, now that I'm interested in a Pro, waiting
for the models to upgrade seems more important also.
Wouldn't want to spend $4,000 on a 3.33 Quad Processor
model then have it be $1,000 cheaper a day later when
Apple makes a processor upgrade to its model lineup.
Mini's take forever to change but not Pro's.

Also, your opinion!
Am I being foolish saving for the 3.33 model when
a 2.66 will kill all of the Mac's and PC's I've ever
owned combined?

Most Apple Authorized Service Provider's will do the upgrades cheaper then an Apple store. And if they use "authorized" Apple HW it should be under Apples warranty & or AC.
