Did either of you guy's ever notice a slight flickering on your eMacs? I searched around about it but all I seem to come up with is the raster problem which I don't think is this problem. It is so slight that I could go on using it this way forever, but it just seems like the refresh rate needs to go higher. In the display prefs it won't let me set it any higher than 80hz. _________________ Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM 500GB HD

No, my eMac was always set to 1024x768 and that seemed to be the best res for that display.
Now that my eyes are used to working on LCD displays, CRTs do appear to flicker more than I ever noticed before. Could that be what you're seeing? _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

That might be the problem then because I tried to set it at 1280X1024 and it flickered even worse so then I drop it to 11??X???? and it was much better. I will drop it to 1024X768 and see how that does. As bad as my eye sight is getting I probably need it at that resolution anyway. Just trying to hang on to that youthful eye sight as long as I can. _________________ Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM 500GB HD

Well that did the trick, 1024X768 is the optimal res for this eMac. Curious though, why they would offer higher resolutions in the monitor prefs that you basically can't use. Oh well, some things are better left not understood. Now to find a 512mb ram chip for it. Thanks for your help. _________________ Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM 500GB HD

Keep your eyes open for the VGA adapter that allows you to output the eMac's screen picture to an external monitor -- http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8639G/A . It's supposed to mirror the display and is great for making use of that old 15" LCD screen that you have in the attic. However, there are some clever software hacks out there that allow you to override that and do the 'extended desktop' thing.
(If you're really brave, you can even over-clock the processor -- but you've got to be very good at soldering... http://www.lbodnar.dsl.pipex.com/eMac/eMac-upgrade.html )
And when you're looking for more memory, the eMac likes branded modules rather than no-name chips; it cost me a lot of time, effort and a big argument with a computer store owner to learn that lesson.... _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

You guys are really making me nervous here, i just bought a stick of ram today for the eMac. I haven't installed it yet because I have a pinched nerve in my lower back and don't think I can turn it over to install the new ram. I hope it works okay but if it doesn't I can return to the place I bought it from. If the ram works I'm going to start on the hard drive upgrade which looks kind of complicated. This was supposed to be a project to do in my spare time, but I can't seem to think of anything else to do but work on it, so it will probably be done in a few days. Thanks Johnny for those links, especially the one to the upgrade site, I downloaded the take it apart PDF file which should come in handy. _________________ Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM 500GB HD
