Apple Releases New iPod shuffle
Wednesday, March 11, 2009
Posted by: Fran
Apple today introduced the all-new iPod shuffle, the world's smallest music player at nearly half of the size of the previous model, and the first music player that talks to you. According to the company, the revolutionary new VoiceOver feature enables iPod shuffle to speak your song titles, artists and playlist names. The third generation iPod shuffle is significantly smaller than a AA battery, holds up to 1,000 songs and is easier to use with all of the controls conveniently located on the earphone cord. With the press of a button, you can play, pause, adjust volume, switch playlists and hear the name of the song and artist. It also features a new aluminum design with a built-in stainless steel clip. The new 4GB iPod shuffle is priced at $79 and available in either silver or black.

| That's neat, but I still think that a little display would be more handy. |

Yet more proof that Apple is trying to do away with all buttons. |

I think I may just be overly negitive but...
Controls on the cord means you're stuck with the crappy, uncomfortable apple earbuds. I'll see if I can find a clearance sale on the old ones. _________________ Young Buck 2.53Ghz Intel Core 2 duo (late 2009), Enhanced USB Monica.

I agree.
I also don't like the size (storage space)..or I should say the price. I use my 1gig shuffle as kind of a playlist for workouts, so I never really go over the 300mb mark. $39 for a gig was a great deal IMO.
But yeah, 4gb seems a bit big with no screen. Hope they come out with some color colors and a smaller size/price. _________________ Mac Mini 1.83 GHz C2D

| I really hope that someone makes a car adapter for this thing. Be nice to keep in the car and not my expensive 80 gig for some one to yank. |

Great, but when are the new Mac minis coming out?
I just felt like saying that for old time's sake as I type this on my new Mac mini.
To be honest, I'm not crazy about the design or price of this new shuffle. And I totally agree with or_astroman on having everything be controlled from the earbuds. |

Wow, Apple is on a product releasing blitz! I think the voiceover and multi-playlist features sound nice, but I still think it should have basic navigation buttons on the player itself. I'll probably buy one down the road though. I love using the shuffles for working out, mowing the yard and stuff. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| What's wrong with buttons? Some of this ease of use stuff is getting harder and harder to explain. It sort of reminds me of this product. I'm not betting against Apple, but I can't imagine this selling as well as the 1G or 2G shuffles. |

| Sorry folks, but I think the Sansa Clip is the best in this group of players. |

I also don't like the idea of controls on the eadphones cord. It also means you can't use your preferred headphones/earphones with it.
The price is now 99$CAD, the 2nd gen 1GB is still available for 55$CAD and has controls directly on the unit.
And I still think they had the best idea with the 1st generation, built-in USB connector and use it as a USB drive too.
I hope someone comes out with a dock/connector that puts a built-in USB connector, controls and headphone jack all inside one small unit that you keep clipped to the top/bottom of this new shuffle, kinda like a case/dock unit with USB at the bottom with a cap, to make it look like a 1st gen shuffle.
And now that the new Mac mini is out (and has all the features most of us hoped it would have), we start the wait for Snow Leopard. _________________ Mac mini 2010 (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz/8 GiB)

I could care less about the new shuffle. Just bring on iTunes 8.1 with the speed improvements. |

| I don't care for audio products that force you to use a certain type of headphone or standard. I want to be able to use it with anything of my liking. |

Half the size? The previous model was tiny. If Apple want to build the controls into the earphones, and the Shuffle is about the same size as the earphones... then why not just build the Shuffle into the earphones?? A Shuffle that you can plug into your ear!
Hmmm. Hygiene reasons suggest that that's maybe not such a good idea when you want to sell it on eBay.
I've still got my 1st gen Shuffle, and like hafamaca, I take it to the gym with me. And like Yvan, I like the built-in USB connector, so I'm not changing anytime soon. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b
