Does anyone know if OS9 install disc will work on G3, G4 iMacs? I seen one on ebay and it claims you can use it to install it on them.
I'm currently running a netinst of Debian Squeeze with Fluxbox WM and getting disappointed that scrolling up & down in firefox plus dragging windows is not moving in a smooth fashion.
I've added another 256mb of memory for a total of 512mb and still having the same effect.
I'm going to install a full version of Debian with LXDE desktop and see how that goes. Maybe using the netinst I'm missing something for it. If this doesn't work I'm going to try Ubuntu. _________________ G4 Mac Mini | 1.25ghz | 1gb | 40gb | OS X 10.4.11 | 37" Westinghouse HDTV

The OS9 retail installation disk will definitely work on your iMac G3. I have the same one as you, and it worked on mine. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

Thnx Fox. I guess it would be best and safe to get the retail version. I'll keep checking ebay. _________________ G4 Mac Mini | 1.25ghz | 1gb | 40gb | OS X 10.4.11 | 37" Westinghouse HDTV

I'm still waiting to find a deal for an OS 9 retail cd, they want too much for it imho on ebay but I will keep looking.
I finally installed Debian with xfce2 instead of lxde, which I wanted but xfce installed by default. The scrolling effect is still there but not as bad as it was with the netinstall installation.
I'll see how long I can take it before trying Ubuntu and see if it has a different effect with scrolling. _________________ G4 Mac Mini | 1.25ghz | 1gb | 40gb | OS X 10.4.11 | 37" Westinghouse HDTV
