I have 9 tattoos. I love em'! I try to get one each time I travel abroad so I'll have a lasting visual memory of the time I spent there.
There are exceptions however. I did NOT get a tattoo when I when to the Bahamas. The reason: well... let's just say cleanliness on the island, didn't seem to be of a high priority, if you get my drift.
I'll try to post some photo's soon.

Nine tattoos? I didn't picture you as the type of guy that would have nine tattoos. 
I'm not saying there's something wrong with tattoos. It just surprises me to hear that.

....and that doesn't surprise me!  That's the typical response when people have talked to me but, not seen me, then meet me. I'm an enigma, what can I say....

I'm with Aqua; tatoos have a bad connotation from early days. In my youth, I don't even recall tatoos being common on hippies.

2 things to ask if you decide to get a tattoo:
1.) Do you use NEW needles EVERY time?
2.) Do you have an Autoclave?
An Autoclave is a medical sterilization machine, if they are using new needles and an Autoclave there is no possibility of any disease. I even ask to see the Autoclave, some places do not sterilize their own, I don't trust that. I think it should be done, in-house.

I feel like a dork for asking Hackers, but what does the one on your left arm represent? I've seen pictures of one like that before.

It's got no real meaning, it's called "tribal". Most designs like that are either tribal or celtic. I have some celtic tattoos as well. I like the flow of the designs. I have a "theme" as it were as well.
Upper body - color tattoos on the right side, tribal/celtic on the left
Lower body - color tattoos on the left side, tribal/celtic on the right
EDIT: The Hula Girl I got while in Maui, Hawaii. All of my tattoos are "one of a kinds". I'm not big on getting a standard flash tattoo. I like to customize it a bit so it's different.
BTW: the tribal on my left arm is a cover up of my ex-wifes name
