Well Dunge, in the broadest and popular sense, Contemporary music is any music being written in the present day and which generally represents trends of the younger generation. Thus contemporary music can easily be defined by current market trends. There are many sub-genres and the poll software does not allow us to list them all.

Well, though most of the world music I listen too admittedly has an electronic flavor to it, many of the actual compositions probably pre-date anything from the other categories..those that are renditions of traditional Indian or Middle-Eastern songs for example...
And as far as age goes... I'm pushing 40 ... Am I still part of the "Younger Generation" ?
OK, more like pushing 37, but...you get the idea.
Think about how old people from the original wave of Punk Rock are now..
Johnny Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols) just turned 53.
Before you know it, there'll be "Anarchy in the Resthomes"!
Most of the music I listened to as a teenager is now played on Classic Rock stations...
So, If going with "Contemporary" means I get to part of the "Younger Generation"...I'll take it! |

The poll software doesn't allow a longer list of options.

- Nobody would remember the 'contemporary' music I listened to in my early teens |

I listen to a variety of music except for C&W and sad Blues. I grew up on R & B mainly, then got into rock music but now mostly listen to jazz since I'm alot older. Music to massage your mind! _________________ G4 Mac Mini | 1.25ghz | 1gb | 40gb | OS X 10.4.11 | 37" Westinghouse HDTV

I listen to quite a lot of different stuff, I think jazzman's list shows that. My taste is so eclectic that I can't say there is one genre I listen to. I appreciate Aqua's ambient choices since I am a fan of Eno. What I listen to depends on my mood. _________________ 2.5 GHZ i5 Mac Minu 8Gb Ram

I usually listen to anything that isn't slow paced (I find most country music boring) ...I'll even listen to classical music that isn't slow.
...guess that's what happens when your born and raised in NY, everything has to be fast paced (although I'm in CO now, and EVERYTHING is so slow).
Weird, but I've been listening to lots of Lady Gaga lately. |

I like racy compositions from Bach, Chopin, and Schubert. It's no coincidence that these are the favourite influences of fusion jazz combos and prog bands.
I'm always in the mood for anything with furious syncopated piano, sax, or bass.
I guess this is what comes of being a baby-boomer from sleepy Malvern, England, - home of Edward Elgar, the magnetron, the Morgan Motor Car, one of Britain's greatest church organ builders, Worcester Sauce, and the spring waters of the Schweppes empire.
