You indicate that you can't hear any sound from within FCP, are you referring to audio tracks from imported DV video, or added music? This happened to me once, but it had to do with imported music files.
For audio from video are their checks (leftside of time line) in the audio time line?
If it's added music, you must first extract the music audio file (AIFF) before dropping the music into the time line.
