My iBooks battery only gets an hour of run time when fully charged. I hear a lot of different opinions on Batteries. I'm not going on eBay. Most say the OCF Battery lasts longer. I know the watts are higher & so is the amh. But what my question is, how long does the Apple Battery vs. the OCF Newer Technologies Battery ? I need experience here. Anyone who has purchased any one of these batteries, please let me know. I know it's hard to estimate but I'm talking while doing typical tasks like Surfing, Word, eMail etc...N Video Rendering or DVD Playback. A lot of people complain there Batteries die prematurely. I know about Calibration. I mean am I going to get 5 Hours, 6 Hours ? I hope so. For $130. then that would be worth it.

I just tried a Newer Tech for my Ti Powerbook which would not charge at all, but the original charged just fine except for the fact that it last less than an hour. I also tried another kind, I think it was ereplacement that would only charge to ~70%. I would go with Apple for the battery.

Thanks. I tend to think to go with the Apple's Battery myself. Nobody states any information on how long the Battery will last just surfing Internet & running iTunes. I just would like an idea. 4 or 5 Hours ? For a brand new Battery, I would hope to get 5 hours, after the initial Calibration process.

I believe the 800MHz iBooks are rated at about 4 hours of usage on the standard Apple battery. Generally that means web surfing or word processing, having wifi on, but bluetooth off, and the brightness turned pretty far down.

If you got a battery that has mAH, I would surmise it would last a bit longer. Battery life is very subjective, however. It really depends on what you're running, what applications are running in the background, how often you're accessing the hard drive, etc. etc.

It's a lot like gas mileage in a car. It may be rated for 30mpg, but if you drive with a lead foot, 300lbs of luggage in the trunk, and 4 adults in the car you're not going to see 30mpg. Even under nearly perfect conditions, you may not see 30mpg.

Wedge,

Thanks for the explanation. That gives me a better idea. 4 Hours would certainly be a nice improvement.
The question is still Apple Battery or Newer Technologies Battery ? I'm guessing Apple battery, since it's an Apple product.

Thank you.

I don't have any first hand experience with the NewerTech batteries, but based on the cost (cheaper than apple) and the run time (longer than apple), I might go with one of the NewerTech ones if I were you.

Sorry, I thought it was a link to 123MacBook, it's a sister site to this and specialised in laptops.

No Problem. I guess I have enough information. I was hoping to hear from people who own a newer technology battery.

I've got a NewerTech battery, but its in a 400MHz PowerBook. I can get 4-5 hours of combined internet, word processing, emailing, which is about all I use it for. It lasts longer than the original battery by I good amount, but I couldn't tell you exactly how much as I don't currently have anything to compare it to.

What most people totally forget when estimating/complaining about their battery duration or life, is to take into consideration the amount of fan time. What other people forget is the huge hit to their wallet when the batteries need replacing.

Electric motors use more power than anything else. The fan runs intermittently only when needed. I don't know what the cut in /cut off temperatures are, but what I do know is that here in the tropics where we have an AT all year round of about 33°C (91.4°F), the fan is on most of the time.

When not plugged into the mains, and working on a laptop I have never got more than about 3 hours maximum out of any of my Mac notebooks, at the best of times. This also increases the number of recharging cycles, which ultimately significantly shortens the battery life.

The batteries in the white 500 MHz G3 iBook and the 1.33 GHz G4 PowerBook lasted for about 3 years before needing replacing.
We can't get 3rd party batterieshere, and the Mac originals cost horrendous price of over $150.

Fully charged batteris last long enough to batteries last long enough to watch a movie on CD/DVD.

My notebooks (on 27/4) sit on 3-fan laptop coolers that cost $4 each from any good computer accessory store. S.Claifornia, Florida, and Oz residents take note Very Happy

Bottom line is: if you buy two new MacBooks and use them equally, you're in for a $300 bill in about 3-4 years time.

OK guys, Thank you.
Californiamini,
I think that's what I was wanting to hear. If the Newer Tech Battery lasts longer, than that is what I would probably eventually buy. Right now, One Hour is OK, but if I'm gonna' make the plunge, I want to get the Battery with the most bang for the buck. It sounds like the Newer Tech battery will give me just that. Thanks again.
