Google Earth 5.0 Released
Monday, February 2, 2009
Posted by: Glenn

Google today announced the release of Google Earth 5.0, a new version of their popular geographic information software. According to the company, users of Google Earth 5.0 can now dive beneath the ocean's surface, explore three-dimensional images of the underwater terrain and view articles and videos about marine science. Google Earth 5.0 also introduces Historical Imagery, a feature that enables users to virtually travel back in time through archival satellite and aerial imagery, Touring, which makes it simple to create a narrated tour in Google Earth and share it with the world and Google Mars 3D, which features hi-res imagery and terrain of the red planet.

Google Earth 5.0 weighs in at 35MB and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

I really like Google Earth, but since when did Mars officially become a part of Earth? Wink

I think you're talking about Google Galaxy. Smile

I think it would be cool if Google Earth supported multi-touch gestures like rotate.

I hope this version performs better. Google Earth normally brings even powerful macs to their knees.

Going to download and check it out..

It's a little hard on memory, but I've never really noticed that on my Intel mini or MBP.

Yeah, it also hits the CPU a little hard during zooming and moving around. It's not enough to cause issues for me though.

I also got a Google Earth update on my iPhone yesterday. Now, that's something that doesn't run very well.
