Elgato Releases EyeTV 3.1
Tuesday, January 20
Posted by: Fran
Elgato has finally released the EyeTV 3.1 update, a new version of their DVR software for Mac OS X. The update was announced earlier this month at Macworld 2009 along with the new EyeTV Hybrid tuner. New features in EyeTV 3.1 include Macrovision's TV Guide EPG, Smart Series Guides, EPG Search By Genre and Parental Controls. It should be noted that one year of the Macrovision TV Guide EPG service is included for new and all existing EyeTV 3 users. After that, an additional year of service is available for $19.95. EyeTV 3.1 also includes support for new hardware and numerous bug fixes.
To download EyeTV 3.1, launch EyeTV 3 and then select "Check for Updates" from the EyeTV menu. The software update will install automatically.

| I like the new features, but that's crazy about paying $20 bucks after next year. It's just a hassle. That said, the TV Guide EPG has way more info TitanTV. |

EyeTV in the UK always used to be bundled with a tvtv subscription for a year, with a $20 renewal fee. So if they're switching to a better EPG for the same fee, I'm all for that!
As an ex-TiVo user, a good EPG is pretty important to me ... |

At least $20 per year is quite reasonable. Equivalent of $1.67/month - or a cofee and doughnut
And YAY for guide support for Canada at last! _________________ My home setup |

Good for you guys! I think it was a long time coming.
I haven't tried 3.1 out yet, but it sounds like another decent one. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

The upgrade installed quickly, and all works great, if not better than before!!
...fees are always bad, but at least this one isn't so bad, and a year is free. |

| Loving the tvguide...I actually would be willing to pay that small fee to have something reliable, titantv has been horrendous for me. |

They have actually had the Canada program guide since Oct. 08. EyeTV release a beta version of 3.0.5 for this and you had to have 3.04 to update.
I personally prefer a mac app called MacProgramGuide along with a subscription to a service called Schedules Direct. Its only $20 a year and works very well. MacProgrameGuide also has a great feature that lets you schedule show recordings on EyeTV with 1 click.

I gave it a shot last night. I'm with you guys on the new TV Guide EPG. It's looking way better than Titan. It also stretches out for like two weeks. Titan was never that reliable or complete for me. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

True, but they go onto to say...
| Quote: | | Existing EyeTV 3 users who already have a TitanTV EPG setup and upgrade to EyeTV 3.1 may opt to continue to use TitanTV as their EPG provider. At a later date, but no later than December 31, 2010, TV Guide will become the sole EPG provider for EyeTV. |
I wouldn't doubt that EyeTV 4 will be out by then. It could be filled with all kinds of new toys. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)
