I've searched around & this is a known fact that others are having. Ever since I did the most recent update, whenever I restart or boot up my Mac Mini, a load Popping Sound comes through speakers. Anyone have a fix for this ? I noticed it immediately after I did the update & it has been that way since.

Both of my machines have random pop's after this update. I certainly have the one on boot that is quite loud.

Just to add I'm running an 1/8" analog jack with both machines.

Analog 1/8 Stereo Mini Jack here as well, Tony. I just googled the problem & Apple Discussion forum pulled up a bunch of people that got the Pop after completing the update. At first I thought, the Pop COULDN'T be because of an update. But when I found a ton of others, it confirmed there is a problem on some machines with this update. As far as I read, Apple knows about the issue.

It seems that a simple solution is to turn off or unplug your speakers if you have to restart it. Or you could be like me and just never turn it off or let it sleep and you wouldn't have even known there was a problem.... like me! Laughing

Dino my Intel mini has had that pop on reboot since day 1. My PPC did not do this. It happens just before OS X loads. ie. grey boot screen is just about to finish and OS X blue screen (just piror to wallpaper) is about to display. I can actually see the drivers on my speakers move in and out upon reboot.

Hopefully after the next update we will all have popless minis.

Banditbill,

My Mini may have had a small speaker Turn On Sound from the beginning but nothing like this Loud Popping Cap Gun Sound ! I'm going to Apples update Page & Install the Package update over the current Update. I guess the Software Update might not be such a great option. I'm hearing more & more people who install direct from Apple's Update Page rather than from the typical Software Update from Menu Bar. Running the update again (this time from the Apple website) can't hurt, right ?

I can handle it in boot, I think it is just a small amount of current sent down the line when the sound is initiated. The random pops bug the hell out of me.

i don't think i'm getting random pops. but i'll tell you, since the update it takes my mac mini a full 45 seconds to boot . it now boots up in like 1 minute 30 seconds. it use to boot in 55 seconds max before this update. random pops would drive me absolutely crazy, as i listen to music always on my mini. i hope they get a fix soon. oh btw, i even downloaded the anti pop program they have for Macbooks. and that did not help either, so i uninstalled it.
