Invalid B Tree Header, 0, 0 ??? iMac DV G3

So I just go & do a maintenance & check disk & the following comes up.
The disk was fine last week when I checked it. All WAS OK.
Could the XPost Facto (failed) Tiger Install could have caused this ?
More Importantly, if I get Tiger or Panther & wipe it clean (Erase & Install), will it be fixed ?

Again, it's an iMac DV G3 DVD Slot Loader running OS9.2.2. with latest Firmware Update. Thanks.

It will be fixed if you use Erase&Install.
The point is, you do not need XPostFacto to install Panther on this machine. And if you upgrade to 512MB RAM, Tiger will install as well.

well I don't know if you've been following my not so progressive & successful chain of events , but I used the XPost Facto trying to load the Tiger Discs that came with my INTEL Mini. I found out the hard way, I can't use INTEL discs with my iMac G3.
So then I found out about Target Disc Mode. So I went ahead & hooked my Mini up to the iMac. That would not let me install because it said the INTEL Tiger Disc was 9.5 GB and my iMac HD is only 10GB. So I aborted that dissapointment.
So just to give you some history. That's where I'm at right now.

It is really, really not possible to install an OS made for an Intel processor on an PowerPC processor-based Apple... Really not possible.
But if you used a generic ("boxed") edition of Tiger, or a Tiger disc off a PowerPC computer plus some trickery to make it boot on a machine it shouldn't actually be allowed to boot - it would work.

And I think the DVD drive in the iMac will have trouble reading a dual-layer disc. However, the Tiger is also available on 4 CDs. I personally had two family packs of Tiger (DVD editions) and swapped one of them for a CD edition in an Apple Store, costs about 10 bucks. I do not run Leopard on all my 10 computers, so I use a single family pack of Leopard.

One additional question which has nothing to do with this post subject.
Why can't I open or mount a .dmg file with OX9 on my iMac G3 ?
I downloaded an old version of AIM for Mac & it won't install. But I've tried with other .dmg files & it won't open.

I don't believe that OS9 can understand dmg format. Disk images have a different format on OS9.

Invalid b-tree header is a disk error that can normally be corrected by a disk utility. Apple's Disk Utility might correct this, or you might need something stronger like Techtool or Drive Genius. You have to run the utility from another drive to fix the "bad" drive.

Yea I ran disk utility & norton disc doctor. both did not work. Like you said, from another drive to fix.

It's ok, it boots up fine & I plan on wiping it clean by next week.

If I were you I'd try to fix that error before installing an upgraded OS. You want to be sure it isn't a bad disk.

Using erase&install formats the disk, so no repair necessary, IMHO.

Fox,

The disk came up with no errors before I started messing with XPost Facto & Target Disc Mode. I think I screwed the disc up by trying to load an INTEL OSX Tiger. I got a bunch of Kernal Fault crashes after I tried that. Ending with the phrase "We are hanging here". But I'm not ruling out the hard drive going bad entirly but it was probably just me doing something I should have not. We shall see.

P.S. I had 3 Hard Drives go in 3 PC's this month. So let's hope it's not now four.
