Rumor: New Mac Mini Coming to Macworld 2009
Approved by: Charles
Category: Mac mini
Wired - "Apple will launch an upgrade to its low-end desktop, the Mac Mini, at January's Macworld Expo in San Francisco, according to an Apple corporate employee who contacted Wired.com. The source, who wished to remain anonymous (to keep his job), could not disclose details about the Mac Mini other than its announcement date: Jan. 5, 2009. That's the first day of Macworld Expo, where CEO Steve Jobs traditionally launches major products."

Figures - now that I upgraded my mini to 4gb RAM and a 320gb drive. However, I could use that ram in my iMac and install the new drive in the new mini, should I buy one. My decision will be based upon what they do with the video card. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

Me too, Hackers. I'm still in love with the Mini I bought in Nov '06, and if the other rumours about Snow Leopard are true, then maybe OS X 10.6 will give all the 'old' machines a speed boost without having to shell out more dineros for new hardware.
But I'm still curious to know what the new Mini will be like... _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

I think Apple needs a spark with something on the desktop side of things. An updated Mac mini could give them a shot in the arm. Plus, they need something compelling in the $500 to $1000 price range. It doesn't seem like people want to stray too far away from that price range in this economy. I'm not in the market for a new computer, but I wouldn't pay more than $800 for something.
I hear you on Snow Leopard and older machines JB. I hope we get the skinny in 20 days. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

Let's just hope both models come with at least the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. A maximum of 4GB would be nice, and I wouldn't mind a larger but thinner Mac mini with room for a 3.5" drive (i.e. Time Capsule sized).
And please, SuperDrive in both models too. No DVD burner was already a shame in 2007, never mind in 2009. _________________ Mac mini 2010 (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz/8 GiB)

Amen! I didn't need another burner, but my 1.83GHz C2D Mac mini should've came with one. Steve Jobs knows the present year, right? _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| The new Mac Mini should have the 1066MHz FSB, along with at least 2.4GHz for the low end CPU speed and 2GB of RAM out of the box, with at least 250GB hard drive. |

I would love to see a Mini re-fresh !!
I great little package , I hope it is not just a rumor.
I could use a new one !
Hopefully the next ones would be easier to up-grade ( user installable HD`s ).
Without the hassle !!

Now there's something that I think most of us would agree with. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

| I'm okay with most of the speculated features except for DisplayPort being the only means to connect a display device. Its one thing to include this on a new laptop that already has a built-in display but it doesn't make any sense for a "headless" Mac to include it as that defeats the whole purpose of the Mini being put in place to work with existing peripherals. Even the DVI port on the current Minis can be adapted to work with older VGA monitors. |

| If they do decide to use the DisplayPort, include the DisplayPort to DVI and DVI-VGA adapters. |

The speculated feature set really isn't that compelling to me. I think I will stick with my Aug 2007 model.
Snow Leopard, Blu-ray, HDMI 1.3 or a price drop, would give me more incentive to purchase another mini. |
