Just received my 250 gig hdd already preformatted off Ebay, installed in less than 10 minutes. Wow this is awsome and makes the AppleTV more usable. |

I never heard of this being done either.
Edit: Don't know about this being legal, but I found it Hackers. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I did the same thing to my AppleTV about a month ago from the seller on Ebay as well. Great guy, the upgrade was soooo simple and fast. The 250GB hard drive is obviously ready to go, no copying of files needed. Can't get much easier than that...!!! It's so nice to have the extra storage onboard. Not to mention my 500GB external drive hooked up to my AppleTV as well. |

Folks have been doing this for almost two years now. Akwardtv and a few others will detail the process for you. ( in the how to section )
I think the deal off of eBay sounds like a great deal.

I myself know that people have been upgrading the drives in AppleTV not long after they first came out. I always thought about doing it myself, but these days I just don't have the time (or patience). Sure, I've upgraded my Mini with ram, hard drive, superdrive, etc... But lately, I'm more of a "Plug & Play" kinda guy... LOL. This upgrade drive from the seller on Ebay couldn't be more simple...
Peel off the rubber bottom of the AppleTV
Remove a couple or torx screws
Remove the old hard drive
Install the new hard drive
Put it all back together
Plug in AppleTV
Sync with iTunes
Watch tv

I'm pretty sure HM and G5G5 were talking about them selling on eBay, but we also put together a nice thread here for upgrading. As a matter of fact, I've had like a dozen or so people send me a PM for help.

This just in: USB port hacked on Apple TV!
I might have been reading your post funny too.
Man, I should have gone into business making these things. It looks like this guy is making about $44 bucks (based on what a 250GB drive is selling for on Newegg) per drive. That's not highway robbery for someone looking to upgrade, but I wouldn't mind cranking ten of those out a day. That's like 14k a month or 168k a year. Then again, not hearing from Apple legal is priceless. |

I know you can upgrade the hard drive. I just didn't know that people were selling them on eBay. I should have made myself more clear. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| Yea i paid $127.00 for it on ebay. May seem like alot but way easier than trying to clone your drive properly not to mention the time it takes. |
