Synium Software today announced the release of CleanApp 3, a major update to their uninstaller and system management tool for Mac OS X. CleanApp 3 comes with a redesigned user interface and dramatically improved performance. According to the company, it has been completely rewritten to leverage Apple's launchd for speedy background tracking of installations and application activities. Other new features and enhancements include:
- New and unique 'Logging Service' monitors file-system-level activity of applications; this allows for complete tracking of programs and their related files - even in hidden folders, deep down in folder hierarchies, as well as in long-forgotten places
- Customizable feature set allows users to adjust CleanApp's GUI to match personal requirements
- The new CleanApp Widget now supports multiple concurrent search operations
- Low CPU overhead and much smaller memory footprint than CleanApp 2.x, significantly improved overall performance
- Extremely fast retrieval of language packages
- More efficient Archiving now creates much smaller archives to save storage space
- Definable search paths for Old Files and Applications
- Integrated 'System Protection': important and system-critical programs and files will not be deleted accidentally; dedicated paths can now be protected manually
CleanApp 3 is priced at $13.00 and requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 or Mac OS X 10.5 or later. Upgrades from previous versions of CleanApp are free.

| I don't know exactly how this differs from AppZapper, but it looks and sounds pretty cool. It's also the same price. That being said, I sort of regret buying AppZapper in the first place. AppCleaner basically looks and does the same thing for free. |

AppCleaner is an awesome little application for uninstalling software. I've been using it for a longtime without any trouble. CleanApp looks a little more complete, but I like the price and simplicity of AppCleaner. Especially when it comes to removing widgets and plugins. At first glance, I don't see anything simple in this app to remove them. I also like the way AppCleaner rotates between items in the menu. That's just eye candy though. |

| I always thought that Apple should have included a simple uninstaller program in OS X, but what are you going to do about it? |
