The Perian team has announced the release of Perian 1.1.2, an update to their popular QuickTime component for Mac OS X. Key improvements in this release include:

- Fixed update checker never running - this version requires a manual install
- Enabled frame-dropping on AppleTV
- Fixed some frames being lost in AVCHD/.mp4 with newer versions of QuickTime
- Fixed another ffmpeg crash on G3s

Perian 1.1.2 weighs in at 2.6MB and requires Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later.

I don't have a Mac yet (can't decide between Mini or Macbook), but do you need to have Perian installed to play DivX and MKV files in Plex? Sorry for the newbie question.

You could just load VLC player, That will grind thru nearly any file format.
