That's me. I just need to buy my sister something. I'm already done with my parents, grand parents and girlfriend. |

I still can't decide on what to get for my older sister. It seems like she has everything. |

I really wanted to get them Macbooks, the the cost was a huge factor. The Macbooks 13" screen was possibly too small and Macbook Pros just weren't an option.
In the end I ordered them Sony Vaio 15" laptops running Vista although the Vaio's ended up being out of stock so I had to swap them for Toshiba's still running Vista.
I really hate Apple for their pricing. I tried my hardest to convert my lads to Apple, one of them really would have preferred to have a Mac, but the Macbooks start at £929, and the Macbook Pro £1369. I ignored the old plastic Macbook it seems stupid to me to still have that in the line up.
I would have preferred to buy Apple but I just cannot justify paying double the price at a time when the credit crunch is hitting and people are facing job losses. The company I work for just made a third of the workforce redundant this week. My job was safe but this may change in the coming months so costs are a big factor in everything I do now.
The laptops cost me just over £500 each and so I got two fairly decent laptops for less money than a single Macbook Pro. If the new aluminim Macbooks had been better priced such as being the entry level Mac at £700 I probably would have stumped up the extra and paid it even allowing for the small screen but I couldn't have gone above that knowing the PC option was only £500.
My youngest lad really likes the Mac and the other lad was coming around too. Now they have their vista laptops I doubt they will look again at the Mac, so Apple have lost two more potential life long customers.
I'll now have the hassle of sorting out all the problems they are bound to have with Vista though _________________ Phil

You lost me a little on the UK pricing, but I don't blame you. Apple needs a more affordable 15" MacBook. That size notebook shouldn't just be an upselling tool from the 13" MacBook.

I'm not familiar with Toshiba's lineup, but some of those Vaios are really nice. I saw a 16" FW Series for $900 at Best Buy the other week that floored me. Heck, you could buy two of those for the price of a MacBook Pro. And it comes with Blu-ray and HDMI output. Why did I just buy a MacBook Pro again?

That and some of the recent arrogance is bothering me.

I hear you loud and clear. Our company is cutting back like crazy, so most of us are on pins and needles these days. It's rumor after rumor after rumor....

My wife is constantly updating Vista on her Dell, but it's actually quite stable. You might be surprised. |
