What do you guys think about the 2.1 firmware update? Here is the list of what's included:
- Significantly better battery life
- Fewer call drops
- Bug fixes
- Faster backups to iTunes
- No App crashes
I'm guessing the new genius playlist feature will be included as well. This all sounds great to me making my iPhone more usable but from that list this should be a maintenance update ie. 2.0.3 rather than 2.1. I think there must be other features that Apple isn't letting out yet....

As long it can be jailbroke/unlocked and gets rid of the Safari crashes I'm looking forward to it.

Those three sound good to me (if they actually work). My backups are incredibly slow, I've had a couple dropped calls here in Virginia, and my actual battery life is way less than I expected. So yeah, if they can deliver on those three things, I will be a happy camper. Copy and paste wouldn't be bad either.

| I have installed 2.1 and done the jailbreak (just to get rid of the auto-completion, which is still defunct for German). 2.1 is the best firmware so far, no doubt. It does everything that they claim, but, as expected, the 3G reception is not any better than before. The phone simply displays more bars for the same signal. Handovers between 3G and Edge are faster and more graceful. I have not had a dropped call since I upgraded, but then it's been only three days. Battery live has improved noticably. Everything feels snappier, the address book lag is all but gone. Subsequent backups take less than 15 seconds. Application installs are a lot faster. The indicator for partially new podcasts is helpful. Text messages take less time to send. No crashes so far. I'm happy. |
