Yeah, I'm with you there Weee. I'm ready to buy a Classic because I want to match it with an XtremeMac MicroMemo....
...and I don't think that this would work with a Touch.
But before I hand over my card, I'll wait to see what happens on the 9th. If it's a price drop, I'll still be happy.

I've currently got the setup in the photo below. I'm using it as a high quality dictaphone to record rough mock-ups of the audiobooks that I'm working on.
The XtremeMac MicroMemo works fine and produces very good quality results. I can even unplug the side-mounted mic and plug in another.
The problem is that the Nano (bought used from eBay) is temperamental. I'm hoping that if I start again with a brand new, full-sized iPod (and another MicroMemo  ), it will behave perfectly and also allow me to experiment with the creation of video podcasts.

That sounds like a fun project.
It looks like a nice little mic, but do they still make it? I see it listed on shopping sites, but nothing on the company site. I could be missing it though. |

No, I don't think they do. I had to forage around on eBay and Google Shopping to find mine, but it was worth the trouble as it does a great job of recording. Barnz was the 123MM member who put me onto these little gizmos.
My only worry is that Apple change the design of the new iPod enough to prevent the full-size MicroMemo from attaching correctly. But I don't think they'd do that, as it would affect so many existing iPod peripherals.

Its been done in the past to the bemusement of many iPod owners so don't think it won't happen again some time...

I know that it's been done to the Nano on every update. I just didn't think that successive generations of iPod (video/classic) were changed... Am I wrong?

It's hard telling with Apple, but I don't think the size of the Classic will change that much. It also looks like you could file down those wings or cut them off in the first picture. A flat base with the dock connector should work with anything, no?
Then again, picture one and two look like different products. I'm kind of confused now.  |

Ye your right on the iPod classic front, the design has remained mostly unchanged.

Agreed. There is a clear evolution and history. I think the iPod nano will even get back on track with the rumored taller design. I never really cared for the little fatty anyways. That's why I bought a little Creative Zen to hold me over until the new iPhone came out. |
