OWC Extends Warranties on Storage Solutions

Other World Computing today announced that warranty programs on select OWC and Newer Technology storage lines are being automatically extended to OWC retail customers who made purchases in 2008. Newer Technology miniStack owners should note that this includes the miniStack v2, v2.5 and v3.

| You need a good warranty from them...my Ministack broke 3 times. Always the same problem, the power plug connector broke on the inside of the unit. OWC always fixed it, but I got tired of messing with it so I bought a Western Digital. |

They might have been taking a hit with sales. Seagate and WD have moved up their warranties to like 3-5 years on external drives. That gives people a certain level of comfort. |

I know it's good for us, the end user; but aren't they loosing money since many hard drives may crash within 3-5 years? |

Maybe if something breaks on the actual enclosure or with its power supply, but I would assume that the hard drive inside still has some sort of warranty from the manufacturer. |

No doubt. Most OEM warranties for drives run about 3 years. At least with most of the 3.5" drives I've seen around. Like from Seagate, Hitachi and WD. |
