Can someone with iPhone 3g do me a favour?

I can't for the life of me find out the extent or limitations of the video out function of the iPhone 3g.

I know when you select a video it will give you the pop up option to 'output to tv' but what about in music mode, coverflow, maps etc.

ie, can it be set to output whatever is on the screen to to tv output?

The idea is (as you can see from my other post) is that I will be setting up an entire incar media solution with iPhones/itouch's and would like know if the iphone may be able to output to a 7" in dash screen for the maps/gps and coverflow.

I'm pretty sure it only outputs when you watch a video.

hmmmm, I figured as much, anyone out there with a video out cable to test this? Anyone know a hack?

Also one other thing, this one is about multi-tasking, can you have music playing while in the maps app and (this is wishful thinking) once you have a video playing out to tv can you then go back to maps (or any other app i guess)

You see where I am heading with all of this? I want to see if I can start a movie up, send it to "tv" and then head back to maps to continue driving with maps/gps (whenever tomtom get their iphone app out)
