|
|
I have a network with several external drives, DVD burner, and a Firewire audio interface hooked up to my Mini. If I connect a MacBook in the chain will the notebook be able to use the interface? Obviously, I would not want to output sound from the Mini and the MacBook simultaneously and would not attempt to do so. I am just thinking how convenient that would be. The output ultimately ends at a Yamaha receiver. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2

| I'm a little confused. Are you just looking to output the audio from your MacBook to the Mac mini to play through the audio device? If so, that can be done with Airfoil and Airfoil speakers. You can always tap in with firewire. As long as you don't have the external drives running. |

No. I was thinking that the audio could go through the card independently from the Mini. When I use the Mini turn the volume up on it and down on the MacBook and vice versa. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2

It's late, but I can't think of a way to share it directly over your network. You would need to tap into the firewire chain with your MacBook. Let me sleep on it though. |

Update. It didn't work as I planned. Both computers work in the chain, and recognize the interface; just not simultaneously. Apparently, the interface can be used only by just one. I am guessing that it ended up not being a computer issue but one of interface limitation. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2
