I bet this Lenovo has the best feeling keyboard of the bunch. Thinkpad keyboards have always been the best. You gotta like the pricing on this one as well.

With Lenovo in the fray all others don't stand much of a chance, but I'm wondering about a Linux version (I think Lenovo puts SUSE on their Linux thinkpads).

Very, but I still think the demand is out there for Netbooks. Especially at the right price point. It would also help if Asus stopped diluting their own brand. I think that also has something to do with the perception of being overcrowded.

I've been wishing that for a long time, but I doubt that it's going to happen. In the meantime, everyone's getting Leopard to run on Winds and Eee PCs.

This Lenovo looks pretty good, and they always have pretty good support for linux.

Oh well. It probably wouldn't be in the same price range as these machines anyways. Sometimes I wish that Apple would release Leopard for all x86 machines. I'm starting to get a little frustrated with them. You would think they could do better with their pricing. It's not like they are paying Microsoft for each copy of Windows.

I hate to say it, but Apple are in the business to make money and Macs are a Propietary system/OS.
PCs are my main setup. I just built me a nice C2D for less than $200. Of course I had some of the parts already.
My 3 choices would be Debian, Fedora and/or Mandriva. I just recently installed Mandriva on my PC and I must say it is pretty nice. Everything seems to work out the box.

I had a feeling that it would be Fedora all the way with your avatar. I don't know a single thing about Mandriva. I shall Google it up. |

I think ASUS stopped with their original market plan when they made their EEE PC's cost $500+. I think Windows isn't helping the netbooks since it makes them seem like a really small laptop. Linux has the isssue of not being heard of by the general public, I remeber at one of the SILUG meetings someone had bought the original EEE PC and used it to show people that Linux can be just as user friendly as Windows (if not more) and it worked when she let them play with it and then tell them they were just using Linux. I just want a 9-10" screen, running Linux, able to have 2GB RAM Atom CPU, SD slot, and either a small SSD or decent size HDD (preferably the latter for me) and all for $400 to $450.

That's sad, if the RAM is easily user upgradable then I would just get the $399 one and just load Ubuntu.
