I don't know if this topic fits in this category but I find it to be a trouble shooting problem. Anyway, I have a MySpace account and there are times that I would like to watch the music videos that my friend's put on their sites but both FireFox and Safari won't play them. Is there any plug-in that I can get for either of these browsers to let the music videos play? Please let me know. I really want to see some videos since I don't have time to watch them on TV. Thanks!

Some are in the .wmv format but majority of the videos are in . asx I believe. I hope there's a way to view it.

well this frist thing that comes to mind is do you have windows media player installed on the computer, another question is what broweser are you using, i've had lots of problems with firefox streaming windows media files, i've switch to camino to fix that but you said there .asx not .wmv, the os x platform and windows media format really don't play well together, you might be better off downloading the videos and trying to play them with media player or trying mplayerosx or maybe VLC

Well I've tried viewing those pages with both FireFox and Safari. As for the videos, some pages have videos in the .wmv format while other pages, the videos are in a .asx format. But I'll see what I can do. Thanks for your input.

I miss watching Yahoo Launch videos. It always says you need Netscape 4.7. Does anyone know the work around for this?

Tell Yahoo to make their webpage standards compliant Wink It's coded to favor IE, which is no-good for us Mac users most of the time.

okay.. here we go.. you have 4 options:

A) Classic Method
1. install classic os
2. install netscape 4.7.5 (i believe it is 4.7.5)
3. install java vm for mac os 9 (i'm too lazy to walk you through this)
4. install wmp 7.1 for os 9
5. go to launch.yahoo.com
...it'll look ugly, but it will work.. videos will load somewhat slow the first time around and requires patience to update wmp 7.1 (codecs and such)

B) Virtual PC method
1. install virtual pc 6 or later (7.0.2 or later if you use tiger)
2. install Windows OS (I recommend WindowsME) and apply all updates
3. use IE5/6 to go to launch.yahoo.com and proceed as usual

C) AOL Music Method
1. goto music.aol.com and browse around.. vast selection and uses quicktime and/or realplayer

D) PC Method
1. use a PC

hope this helps! i use the aol music and virtual pc methods! and as for myspace, i use virtual pc/windowsME

-p
p.s. don't bother with opera browser to emulate IE mode

Almost any wmv clip will play on a mac in either VLC or the current version of Windows Media Player.

As for asx...you're pretty much out of luck. Even trying to watch one through VPC is too slow, as they take a bit 'o resources to decode. Only real solution is to copy them to a PC, convert them to mpeg (or avi) using something like HT MPEG Encoder and then copy back to your mac.

this defeats the purpose of what the users want.. they want to be able to have the embedded video play on the webpages with embedded video
