Ok in my excited stupor waiting for the iPhone I decided to email the Omni Group to find out if the have plans for the iPhone:
Quote:
Hi!
I'm a big fan of your apps, mostly OmniOutliner. I was wondering if
you have any plans to bring it to the iPhone as its now open for third
party developers. I think the iPhone would be an incredible
environment and I don't think I'm alone when I say I would snap this
program up in heartbeat.
Thanks for reading
Alfie

and there response:
Quote:
Hi Alfie,
Thanks for your email. The developers do have plans for Outliner for the iPhone, and I have just added your feedback as another of many "yes" votes for it. I believe that OmniFocus for iPhone will come out first, then Outliner will follow. We don't have an estimated time of release, but rest assured, it will happen!

We really appreciate your feedback, and please feel free to write with suggestions or questions any time!

sincerely,
Monica R.

Omnifocus and OmniOutliner on the iPhone Cool

Now that combo has definitely got my interest up a fair bit.

Excellent work, Trustory - this is the best Mac-related news I've heard for a long time.

I can now remember what it was like to wait for Christmas when I was seven years old. The question is: Will we have to wait weeks, months or years? Confused

[Edit] Hey! Maybe Cypher and I should send Omni a message to add to the pile, and encourage them to Get A Bloomin' Move On!

If it came out by september I think I would be the happiest student on campus, only having to carry my iPhone to take, and I guess you could add photos to the notes you take there are so many possibilities I really can't wait to see what the devs have planned, from both the OmniGroup and other developers.

An iPod Touch with OmniOutliner would be so overwhelmingly useful to me, that I think I'd happily replace my MacBook with one. The only reason that I didn't get a cheap, second-hand Mac was because it would have been unable to run the version of OS X that OO demands. An iPhone version of OO would make my heavy, bulky notebook pretty unnecessary.

I like the idea of adding photo's to the notes as well. I always typed brief notes whilst recording the audio of the lecture. It would have been great to have also been able to add a photo of any notes the lecturer had added to the whiteboards etc.

The big news in this for me was Omnifocus. To be able to use that on a Touch or iPhone is just huge.

I use OmniFocus on my MBP for work related stuff. Having it on a hand held device would be the ultimate gadget for me and I might even stump up the money for a iPhone if it meant being able to use apps like OmniFocus.

Cool Cool

I wonder how many features won't make it into the iPhone version. I can't imagine that they'd need to cut much out, because an outliner is essentially about text editing, and that's not exactly going to stress the CPU on an iPhone. Smile

I imagine some features will simply be unnecessary for the iPhone but I hope that some iPhone specific features are added. Sorry for the basic question Cypher but what is OmniFocus used for?

I just did the same thing, and I agree: WOW. I now understand why OmniFocus is getting top priority for a mobile platform like the iPhone. It's gonna be fantastic when you can walk around with apps like that in your pocket.

I am so glad that I didn't throw out my MacBook's original packaging... Wink

I initially started trying an app called Things which is also very good, but Things wasn't as mature a product as OmniFocus so I also gave the OmniFocus Beta a try.

Luckily I managed to get it at a discount price as it was still in beta when I bought it. I also grabbed OmniOutliner Pro at the same time and also used my student discount so it was a pretty good deal in the end for two brilliant apps.

OmniFocus takes a little getting use to, but if you understand and follow the concepts of GTD it soon becomes a must have app.

If you like the idea of OmniFocus, a great book to check out is Getting Things Done by David Allen, it’s basically what OmniFocus was written to achieve.

I actually already have a copy of David Allen's GTD, but it's one of those that I started to read, and never finished. I should get back on the case with that one...

How about you, Cypher? If I remember correctly, you also started to read GTD. Did you finish it?

yes I did finish it, but I didn't take it all in at the first read.
I just skimmed through it first time as I was busy with my Uni studies, so I do need to read it again now I have more time on my hands.
