Matias introduces USB 2.0 Keyboard
Saturday September 17, 2005
Matias has introduced its USB 2.0 Keyboard, a hybrid keyboard and USB 2.0 dock for connecting high-speed peripherals. In addition to the dock, the keyboard also has a conventional 2-port USB hub located on the back, for plugging in your mouse, joystick, and other USB devices. According to the company, the USB 2.0 Keyboard is ideal for the Mac mini. "Mac users have been plugging USB cables into their keyboards for years, but many newer devices require the higher speed of USB 2.0," said Vesna Vojnic, Marketing Director for Matias. "iPods, USB flash drives, and newer digital cameras can take forever to transfer files if you don't have USB 2.0."
The Matias USB 2.0 Keyboard costs $39.95, and is available for both PC and Mac. The US keyboard is available now. UK, French and German models are coming in October.
Matias also offers a keyboard and optical mouse bundle for $49.95. The 2-button mouse has a scroll wheel for quick, smooth scrolling through documents and web pages, and a precision optical sensor for accurate tracking.
Specifications:
- 47.5 x 17.3 x 3.5 cm (18.7" x 6.8" x 1.4")
- 750 g (1.65 lbs)
- 152 cm (5') Cable

Very cool. I've been waiting for the Matias Tactile keyboard to come with USB2 before dropping $100 US. Hopefully they'll change that model as well.
I bought the Apple keyboard as a low cost decent keyboard in the meantime. I'll stick with it for now, but I may have bought one of these new Matias models had it been available at the time.
I like how they put one of the USB connectors on the top.
This is great news, now all the rest of the manufacturers will have to play catch up.
Is anyone aware of any other keyboards offering USB2 connectivity? |

I've never seen another keyboard with USB 2.0. I hope Apple takes note of this keyboard. This keyboard seems like a pretty good deal for 40 bucks. A great deal if the quality is as good as the Matias Tactile Pro keyboard. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini
