Mods: Dave's Mac Mini Cube

It's been a while since I've seen a really nice Mac mini-based mod. That was until I opened an email from Dave Chugg this morning. He's created a really nice Mac mini cube with a brushed stainless steel case and some snazzy looking black Apple logos. It also includes a little PicoPSU inside for powering all of the new goodies. I'll let him tell you about the rest.

| Nice job on the Apple logo. I wonder if it was just dremeled? I also like the design with that big 120mm fan on top. I bet it keeps things nice a cool without making much noise. |

Super nice design!! It probably took lots of hard work and time designing and creating the case.
I agree with Devo, the fan on top looks great. |

I say this with the greatest respect..
The fan on top looks great...and it also makes me think...'this is what a Mac Mini would look like after the Borg assimilated it ?
Ah....nostalgia...bring back the Borg...
Hmm...
And while we're in that arena....
What would a Mac Mini look like if it were designed by Daleks...?

Maybe old fashioned of me, but why not place that insanely great Plextor burner on the front, instead of at the back? Plextor would be my choise if they could be placed in a LaCie D2 case (not all internal burners can, you know) and they delivered a silver/alu bezel... _________________ ___________________Jim©

Thanks for the positive comments guys.
The cut-outs were lasered - I don't trust myself with a Dremel, so did a fairly simple design and a guy did the actual cutting with CNC. The front and side panels are basically all the same except for the LED hole on the front that I of course drilled.
Decided I wanted a clean front for a couple of reasons - the acrylic box would have needed some fine slotting work to make a CD slot, but because the acrylic is a five sided box it made sense to have the open face at the back. The only work I needed to do on the acrylic was do some hole sawing top and bottom for air in and air out. The decider for me on where to have all the outlets and inputs was using the removable bay thing and having it like expansion ports at the back.
The logo on the back face is one of the lasered logos from the other panels just stuck on. |
