Shootout: MacBook Air versus MacBook Pro

Bare Feats - "We paid more for the 1.8GHz MacBook Air than we did for the 2.6GHz 15" MacBook Pro. After spending time using both side by side, we've decided to sell the MacBook Air. We'll explain but first, take a look at how they compare in performance."

Wow, the MacBook Air got spanked.

I like this review. It's honest and to the point. It acknowledges that not all product meet all peoples needs.

.

It's a pretty dumb comparison if you ask me..

It's like witnessing a shootout between Woody Allen and Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry.

I agree Aqua. The author's peed off because he bought an Air and it wasn't as fast as his MBP. Couldn't he have worked that out from the spec sheets? Confused

I wouldn't be too harsh on him. Rob at BareFeats has always produced hard numbers with benchmarks/tests to back up his claims of performance. He's not as much interested in if something is faster/slower, but by how much, and in what circumstances. He acknowledges in the notes that the MBA is not the machine suited for his needs, but others may want it.

I think the MBA surprised a lot of people because it's the first Apple product in a long time that isn't targeted to mass audiences. When it first came out, many people were almost upset with Apple because it was such a niche product. I think Rob's tests show that it is indeed, a very niche product.

I also like BareFeats because they purchase a lot of product themselves and test it with little bias. They do get loaners, but it doesn't seem as much pandering to the hand that feeds them like other, more corporately owned publications/websites do. However, I do see a FirmTek preference often on the site...
